The 10th-grade entrance exam of the school year 2020-2021 in Hanoi is scheduled to be held on July 17 and 18. Students will take 3 tests in Math, Literature, and Foreign Language – a decrease of 1 subject compared to last year.
Hanoi People’s Committee has decided to skip the 4th subject to enter the 10th grade in the high school year 2020 – 2021. Accordingly, students only take 3 tests: Math, Literature, and Foreign Language. The content of tests requires a reduction of load according to the guidelines for streamlining the program for the second semester of the school year 2019 – 2020 issued by the Ministry of Education and Training.
Due to the fact that students are taking too long off school to prevent the Covid-19 pandemic, Hanoi has decreased the test for the 10th-grade entrance exam to reduce students’ pressure. The fourth exam is an elective that will be notified 2 months before the official exam.
In order to facilitate the learning and preparation process and the best preparation for exams, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training has a number of notes for students.
The tests are not included in streamlining contents
According to the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, the public entrance exam for grade 10 includes questions according to the knowledge and skills requirements of the current secondary school program, mainly in the 9th-grade one.
The exam questions are built on the basis of closely following the instructions on adjusting and streamlining knowledge and skills according to the guidance of the Ministry of Education and Training: “No test and assessment for streamlining knowledge content. and the content “does not teach”, “do not do”, “do not do”, “encourage students to learn by themselves, read by themselves, watch by themselves, do by themselves”.
The Math and Literature exams are in the writing format, with 120 minutes per test. The foreign language test takes the form of an objective multiple-choice test with 60 minutes to finish. There will be many codes of tests in an exam room, ensuring the principle: the code test of 2 adjacent candidates does not coincide. Candidates take the test on answer sheets. Test results will be assessed by computer software.
As for the foreign language exam, candidates can choose one of the following languages: English, French, German and Japanese. Candidates are allowed to register for the test in a foreign language that is different from the one they are studying at school.
The student’s admission score is the sum of the scores for math and language arts (factor 2), plus the scores for the foreign language test, plus the priority score (if any). The exam scores of the subjects are calculated on a scale of 10. The Hanoi Department of Education and Training will only admit students who have enough prescribed exams, do not violate the exam regulations to the extent of canceling the exam results and do not have any test which gets 0 score.
How to register aspirations and expected admission time
Recently, the Hanoi People’s Committee also issued Decision No 1520/QD-UBND amending and supplementing Clause 3, Clause 4, Clause 5 and Clause 7, Article 1 of Decision No. 3951 / QD-UBND dated July 23, 2019 on the promulgation of the school year time plan for preschool, general education and continuing education for the school year 2019-2020 in the locality.
Accordingly, the time to complete the school year is adjusted to before July 15. The time to consider and recognize the completion of the primary school program and the secondary school graduation recognition review time before July 31. Time to complete enrollment in grade 10 before August 15. Other contents are still implemented as previously planned. Thus, compared to the old plan, the completion of the 10th-grade enrollment of Hanoi City was pushed back 1.5 months.
The Department of Education and Training allows each student to register two aspirations for admission to two public high schools within the same enrollment area, regardless of the preference for gifted classes. In addition, students can apply at non-public high schools or vocational education and continuing education centers by admission method.
Successful students confirm admission to the school either online or in-person from August 3, 2020 to August 5, 2020. Submit admission documents at high schools supplementary recruitment (if any) from August 12-15, 2020. In order to create favorable conditions for students, parents and schools, the method of admission to grade 10 of non-public high schools remains the same as the previous year, which is admission according to study and training results in the secondary school or admission based on entrance exam results for 10th grade public high schools for students wishing to be admitted to non-public schools.
